The Millennium Cup: Another Crossover

A Blog by Charles Fulmer

In one of my previous blogs, I talked about how “The Chronicles of Coverdale” began as a crossover between Nintendo and Disney, originally called “The Nintendo Revolution.”  But this was not my only crossover story.

In 2015, after I had finished “The Nintendo Revolution,” I was watching clips on YouTube of one of my favorite childhood cartoons, called “Wacky Races,” a racing-themed cartoon.  Upon watching this, an idea came to me about writing a racing-themed story based on not only characters from Nintendo and Disney, but also characters from other different cartoons.

When I compiled my list of twenty characters I wanted to use, I decided to write the story as a fun follow up to my previous story, which I called “Nintendo Revolution: Quest for the Millennium Cup.”  The story not only contained characters such as Mario, Luigi and Olaf, from Super Mario Brothers and Frozen, but also contained characters such as those from Wacky Races, Pole Position, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Speed Racer, and many others.

The story depicted the character’s quest to win the Millennium Cup, competing in ten different races to determine who was the best racer in Nintendia, while also having a subplot where one of the racers had been poisoned by one of their rivals.  The journey mostly followed Luigi’s chance to be better that Mario in the quest, with a surprising friendship growing between Luigi and Wario, and meeting their new friend, Purple Sister, from the “Hyperdimension Neptunia” franchise.

Luigi was the original winner of the Millennium Cup in my story, but while there was a sense of jealousy from Mario about him falling behind in the series, ultimately Mario becomes proud of Luigi for his accomplishment, and they continue as brothers who love and care for each other.

This story was another that I felt needed to have my own established characters and got overhauled as well, but I did not feel that this would have been a strong follow up to “The Chronicles of Coverdale” in the way it was for “The Nintendo Revolution,” so I decided to make it its own stand-alone story, therefore creating “The Millennium Cup.”

While I no longer have the “Nintendo Revolution” files anymore from changing them to the stories they become, the origins of these two stories still linger in my memories, and give me a sense of joy that I was able to create the stories I have written over the years.
